2025 Hilo Orchid Society
71st Orchid Show and Sale
"Orchid Isle: Mauka to Makai"
Welcome
Aloha, I am Kathy Gollaher, the 2025 Orchid Show Chairperson. I will be assisted by Karl Mendonca, who has been our show chair for many years.
Our orchid show will be open to the public Friday, July 25 through Sunday, July 27, 2025. This year’s theme is “Orchid Isle: Mauka to Makai.”
Why? Jan Anderson inspired me to include a bit of education in the Hilo Orchid Society display for the show. The footprint of the display will be the map of Hawaii Island. The mountains will be placed in their actual locations on the map, but they will basically be a series of shelves displaying the orchids with the cooler growing orchids on top, intermediate growing in the middle and warmer growing orchids on the bottom. As Master Gardeners say, the “right plant in the right place.”
The Hilo Orchid Society is so grateful to our local Hawai’i Island orchid growers, Orchid Society members and many amateur creative designers who came together to create such a range of outstanding displays and astonishing exhibits for you this year.
Putting on the largest orchid show in the state is a big endeavor that wouldn’t be possible without the many dedicated volunteers who contributed their time, talent and efforts toward making this show a success. We’re very appreciative of the tremendous show committee, who worked tirelessly to make it happen.
Mahalo and enjoy this year’s show.

Dedication
This year the Hilo Orchid Show is dedicated to the memory of longtime Hilo Orchid Society member Little Haspe, who recently passed away at the age of 89. Lottie was President of the Hilo Orchid Society years ago, and for years she continued to actively participate in our orchid shows. She will be missed.

Practical Matters: Food, Keiki, Restrooms
Hungry? Just outside the tunnel, to the right (but inside the gates) you'll find delicious offerings from food vendors:
Did you bring kids? Visit our Keiki & Ohana Orchid World exhibit. Fun for children and adults, too!
Restrooms are near the front gate where you came in.
Too many plants to carry? There's no such thing as too many orchids, but we have a Plant Hotel near the rear of the stadium where we will temporarily hold your purchased plants for you, so you don't have to carry them while you continue to enjoy the show.
Sending Orchids Off-Island? Orchids sent off-island need to go through official agricultural inspection. There is an Agricultural Inspection station located near the exit.
