The Hilo Orchid Society meets at 2pm on the second Saturday of each month at the Kamana Senior Center at 127 Kamana Street in Hilo, Hawaii. Meetings feature a display of members' flowers, knowledgeable speakers on culture, breeding, travelogues, shows, judging and many other aspects of growing orchids, a plant forum with commentary on selected members' plants and a drawing to win plants. After the monthly meeting around 4pm we have judging by the American Orchid Society sponsored by the Society. We have a monthly newsletter with announcements of meeting speakers and activities, the President's message, a review of the previous meeting and pictures of the People's Choice Awards and any AOS awarded plants. The Society's Annual Show is presented each year in the Edith Kanaka'ole Stadium. World class displays, orchid plant displays, videos and demonstrations are prominent features of the Show. Sponsored annual trips to the Kona Orchid Club Show and Sale, the Daifukuji Orchid Club Show and Sale. Sponsored Commercial Greenhouse Tours An auction at the December Holiday Meeting. Dues is $15 for a single member and $20 for a family houshold for one year. |
